WWII History: The stalemate at Cassino was not only blocking the Allies road to Rome but also producing massive casualties. The Allies decided that an amphibious landing at Anzio would force the Germans to withdraw. Instead, continuous bombardment of the Allied beachhead caused the quick end run to turn into a six-month nightmare. Join Duane E. Shaffer for a discussion of the strategy and tactics of this campaign.
