Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Course is designed for those new to boating and the area, as well as experienced boaters who would like to strengthen their skills. Senior, highly-experienced instructors present the material through lectures, demonstrations and discussions. Topics covered: required safety equipment, boat handling, docking and anchoring, navigation, right of way rules, VHF radio operation and handling emergency situations at sea. Participants will study the navigation charts for the Pine Island Sound, San Carlos Bay and Caloosahatchee River, with important channels and waterways discussed. Completion of the course and passing a simple exam qualifies participants to receive the Boating Safety Education ID card from the state.
